High up, but not far enough: Gregor Deschwanden at dusk in Oberstdorf.
With a jump of 118.5 m and 35th place, Gregor Deschwanden certainly qualifies for the opening event of the Four Hills Tournament on Thursday in Oberstdorf. However, the only Swiss at the start will have to improve if he wants to reach the second round of the top 30.
At the Four Hills Tournament, the first round will be played in the knockout system. The 50th of the qualifier competes against the 1st and so on. Deschwanden has to deal with the 16th classified Norwegian veteran Robert Johansson. Only the five best losers in a duel make it into the top 30.
Ammann not there – but in Engelberg
The Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud (133.5 m) secured the CHF 3,000 for winning the qualification ahead of the World Cup leader and tour favorite Dawid Kubacki (132 m).
Simon Ammann (41) is absent for the first time in 22 years. Instead, the four-time Olympic champion will start this week in the Continental Cup in Engelberg. (SDA)
