Former English footballer Jermaine Pennant is bankrupt.
In 2007, Jermaine Pennant (39) was in the Reds’ starting XI in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat in the Champions League final against AC Milan. Now, almost 16 years later, the Englishman is up to his neck in money problems.
As the English “Sun” writes, Pennant was “declared bankrupt” because he owes more than a million. According to the report, creditors include several banks, the British tax authority HMRC, municipalities and utilities.
One-year bankruptcy order
A one-year bankruptcy order was issued against Pennant in Birmingham District Court. This comes after he failed to pay a number of outstanding bills and was sued by creditors.
After his career, the footballer founded his media company “Jermaine Pennant Ltd”, but this was dissolved in 2020 and deleted from the commercial register.
Once youngest Gunner
The attacking player made his professional debut for Arsenal in the League Cup in 1999. At 16, he was the youngest player to ever play for the Gunners. However, his record has now been broken again.
After a short season at Arsenal and a series of loan deals at various English clubs, he finally ended up at Liverpool in 2006, where he spent the most successful period of his career. He played his last games in the English House of Lords in 2014 for Stoke City.
Pennant struggled with discipline problems as a player, having already been imprisoned for 30 days for drunk driving in 2005. Problems that still haunt him after his career and have brought him to financial ruin. (bjl)
