Great sadness for Anton Walkes.
The football world mourns. Anton Walkes († 25) died in a boat accident in Florida on Thursday. The Charlotte FC defender was found unconscious at the scene after two ships collided near Miami. The Englishman had to be revived by the emergency services. However, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
“We are heartbroken at the loss of Anton Walkes, a truly incredible father and loving person. Our entire community is mourning this tragedy,” Charlotte sports director Zoran Krneta said in a statement.
Tottenham stars wear armbands
Walkes started his football career at Tottenham. The London club mourn the death of their former player. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former player Anton Walkes. The thoughts of all members of the association are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
As a mark of respect, Spurs players will wear black armbands in Thursday night’s game against Manchester City. Alongside Tottenham and Charlotte, Walkes has played for Portsmouth FC and Atlanta United FC in MLS during his career. (mab)
