Karlsson wins the Tour de Ski
Fähndrich falls out of the top 20 after the final stage
Nadine Fähndrich laboriously fights her way up the Alpe Cermis – and finishes the last stage of the Tour de Ski in 31st place. She clearly misses her overall goal.
Nadine Fähndrich finished 31st in the final stage.
Goal one has been achieved: Nadine Fähndrich finishes the Tour de Ski. The 27-year-old from Eigenthal also completed the seventh and final stage – the strenuous ascent to Alpe Cermis. However, she clearly misses goal two: The targeted ranking in the top 10 of the final standings will not come to pass. Fähndrich finished the tour in 22nd position. Also because she lacks the strength for an exploit at the end.
In the end, she was 31st among the 37 runners who started – and lost a few more places in the overall standings.
Karlsson completely exhausted
The Tour victory goes to the Swede Frida Karlsson, who brings her big lead to the finish in the final stage. Anxious minutes follow, however, after she collapses after crossing the finish line – and needs medical help.
The Frenchwoman Delphine Claudel wins the final stage, thus claiming her first World Cup victory. (mpe)
