Summer, Akanji and Co. with a beard and new hairstyles: FCB apologized for this national post.
Switzerland meets Portugal in the World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m., the excitement among the Nati fans is huge. FC Basel’s social media department wanted to heat up this affiche with a special tweet. But instead of laughter and positive feedback, the contribution arouses incomprehension and severe criticism.
The tweet shows various Nati players who have already kicked at the Rheinknie in their careers. However, the faces of Yann Sommer, Manuel Akanji and Co. were given beards and special hairstyles using Photoshop. “Maybe Portugal can be confused about something like that,” write the authors of the post.
Reactions follow promptly, above all of a critical nature. After just an hour, the club responded, deleted the tweet and apologized: “Unfortunately, today’s post about the Swiss national team went completely wrong. It was very thoughtless and of course in no way meant to be derogatory or insulting. We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt affected. Sorry!» (che)
