Britschgi follows in the footsteps of Stéphane Lambiel, who won silver at the European Championships in 2006, 2008 and 2010. The last Swiss medal in continental title fights went to Sarah Meier, who won gold at the home European Championships in Bern in 2011.
Britschgi shows the best freestyle of his career so far in Finland. The performance is rated with 168.75 points. After the short program, which didn’t go as well on Wednesday, he climbed up from 5th place to the podium. This with a total of 248.01 points, which is around 5 points below the personal best of mid-November 2022.
Meanwhile, victory goes to Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa (267.77) ahead of Italy’s Matteo Rizzo (259.92). With Russia, however, a major nation was missing, which would hardly have gone empty-handed when the medals were awarded.
The Swiss laid the foundation for the exploit right at the beginning of the freestyle. The two quadruple combinations succeed perfectly. In terms of physical condition, the man from Schaffhausen is holding up, although he broke his collarbone in a bicycle fall at the end of November and therefore had to take a break for a while. He finished the Olympic Games in Beijing last February in 23rd place (SDA/bjl)
