Born in Düsseldorf, Bommes was SCB President from 1987 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1995. In his first term of office, which began with promotion to the National League A at the green table, he won two championship titles (1989 and 1991).
After leaving ice hockey, the passionate concours rider, trained chemigrapher and photolithographer managed the tennis and squash center in the Thun suburb of Uetendorf to the end. (SDA)
