Matthieu Bailet falls badly during downhill training in Bormio.
French skier Matthieu Bailet suffered a severe concussion during downhill training on Monday. This is announced by the French Ski Association FFS. Bailet had a bad fall shortly after the start in Bormio and had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter. Bailet is currently under medical observation.
For Bailet it is not the first accident on the Stelvio. The Frenchman had a bad fall in 2017 and sustained a shoulder injury after falling into the safety nets.
Another driver falls violently
Shortly after the fall of the 2016 Super-G junior world champion, his teammate Victor Schuller also had an accident. The 27-year-old broke his wrist and will be operated on in France on Tuesday. The training victory of the Italian old master Christof Innerhofer (38) moved into the background.
After the two violent falls, two-time world champion and teammate Alexis Pinturault spoke up and wished the two victims the best recovery: “Bormio reminded us that Christmas is behind us. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best for Bailet and Schuller.” (hon)
