Sofia Goggia is dominating the Downhill World Cup this winter as well.
Sofia Goggia is once again the downhill dominator par excellence this season. She was able to win four of the six races. On the last descent in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the 30-year-old fell and suffered a minor injury to her right knee.
In order not to jeopardize her participation in the World Cup (06.02 – 19.02), the Italian skipped the Super-G the following day – and instead went on vacation.
Coach doesn’t understand
In the Dubai sun, Goggia is currently recovering from her fall and refueling for the season’s highlight in Courchevel-Méribel. The Italian will stay in the emirate until Saturday before she returns to the slopes and starts training again.
But not everyone understands the spontaneous short trip of the Olympic champion. Italy’s women’s head coach Gianluca Rulfi is annoyed: “Holiday in the warm? That wouldn’t have been necessary. But if she wants it that way … », Rulfi told the «Gazzetta dello Sport».
She’s still missing a world title
But the coach is anything but surprised by his driver’s behavior. ‘Goggia likes things like that. Sometimes she prefers to do the strangest things. Maybe that’s a drive for the races.” After all: On Instagram, Sofia Goggia shows that she not only lies in the sun in Dubai, but also works in the weight room.
On February 11th it will be seen whether Goggia’s trip to Dubai will take revenge. Then everything is at stake for the Italian on the descent in Courchevel-Méribel. The 30-year-old still lacks the world title in the supreme discipline in her palmares. (mab)
