At the Yellow Cup in Winterthur, Andy Schmid and the national team were able to beat Austria.
The Swiss and Austria had already faced each other five days earlier at the Yellow Cup in Winterthur, when Switzerland had prevailed (29:28) and thus secured victory in the tournament. In the reprise at Lake Constance, Michael Suter’s team was on course for the third win in the fourth match of the year until halftime (18:15).
But after the change of sides, the Swiss entered a longer period of weakness, which the home team converted into a 25:21 lead by the 46th minute. As a result, Switzerland came back to 26:27, but the 13th defeat in the 49th comparison with Austria could no longer be avoided.
For the SHV selection, the EM qualification will continue in just under two months. After victories against Georgia and Lithuania, Switzerland will host Hungary, who are also undefeated in their group, in Schaffhausen on March 8th. (SDA)
German start victory at the World Cup
The German handball players started the World Cup in Poland and Sweden with a win. In Katowice they defeated the Asian champions Qatar with 31:27. The Qataris are a kind of nemesis for the Germans, as they have repeatedly inflicted sensitive defeats on the DHB selection in the past at final tournaments. At the home World Cup in 2015, they knocked out the Germans in the quarter-finals on their way to the final. Two years later, the German team failed in the round of 16 against Qatar. Defending champion Denmark started the tournament confidently with a 43:28 thrashing of Belgium. (SDA)
