The Swiss handball national team is slowed down by Cape Verde in their second game at the Yellow Cup.
The Swiss only fell behind once against Cape Verde (4-5 in the 8th minute), but on the other hand they never managed to get ahead by more than three goals. They had to accept the 29:29 after 58:10 minutes. Bundesliga legionnaire Samuel Zehnder was the most successful Swiss thrower with eight goals, six of them on penalties.
Despite the loss of points, there will be a final at 4 p.m. on Sunday: Switzerland versus Austria. Switzerland could win the traditional national tournament for the sixth time and like last time in January 2020. In 2021 and 2022 the pandemic prevented the staging.
Austria with better goal difference
Austria won their games against Japan and Cape Verde by a total of 17 goals. Against the same teams, the Swiss earned a plus of four goals.
Beforehand, Japan will play against Cape Verde from 1.30 p.m. With a win, Cape Verde could overtake Switzerland in the rankings – if the Swiss lose and have the worse goal difference. (SDA/mab)
