Töff-Aegerter angry about Sports Awards nominations
“Has athletes on the list who didn’t win”
This season, Dominique Aegerter has won two motorbike championships from victory to victory and won two titles. But he is out of the question as Swiss athlete of the year. That doesn’t suit the Bernese at all – and he lets everyone know that.
Dominique Aegerter: Despite a series of victories, the motorcycle racer has not been nominated as a possible athlete of the year.
This man is really angry. Motorbike star Dominique Aegerter (32) posted an Instagram story this week with the list of candidates for the Sport Awards and wrote: “And where is Dominique Aegerter???”. Garnished with symbols like “thumbs down”, even the puke emoji is included.
The MotoE Champion and World Supersport Champion is missing from the list of 15 nominees for Sportsman of the Year.
Blick arrives at Aegerter in Indonesia, where he is preparing for his Supersport World Championship race next week. He explains his frustration post like this: “I begrudge all the nominees, but I was just very disappointed. I was really hoping for that this year. I achieved everything in my two classes. At least being nominated would have been a nice recognition.”
Already won 18 races this year
Then the man from Bern counts: In the MotoE electric class, he became World Cup winner this season with 12 podium places (including 3 wins). And it also runs with a petrol engine. Aegerter is likely to defend his 2021 World Championship title in the Supersport World Championship, and he can already do everything early on the penultimate race weekend in Indonesia (November 12/13).
Aegerter: «In Supersport I have 15 wins with 17 podium places, it doesn’t get much better than that. There are names on the sports awards list that have won significantly fewer or nothing at all.”
Aegerter does not mention any names. But it is clear that Rohrbacher is irritated by nominations such as Ricky Petrucciani, second at the European Championships over 800 meters, or Jan Scherrer, third at the Olympics in the halfpipe. With BMX World Champion Simon Marquart, an exotic sport has also made it onto the list.
But Töff is missing. To the chagrin of Aegerter, who once again feels underappreciated, especially by television, since he has been clinching victories in a row away from Grand Prix racing.
