Christian Wohlwend’s time at HCD is over.

It was one of the big issues in the National League in recent weeks: will Christian Wohlwend (46) get a new contract with HC Davos? Or does the Engadin native have to pack his bags after four years with the record champions? Now the people of Graubünden have decided – against Wohlwend. He has to go immediately.
Head of sport Jan Alston: “We believe that the team will need different, new impulses and a new voice in the future in order to develop further. In order to start this development immediately, we have now decided to change coaches early, which is why Wohlwend was released today.”
It’s been rumbling for a long time
This is not a surprise. Blick felt his pulse during the Spengler Cup in Davos and headlined on December 30: “It’s not looking good for Wohlwend.” Even a separation during the current season was already considered at the time. After a disappointing Spengler Cup, the first three games of the new year, of which HCD won two and scored three times while also catching up on deficits, were no longer able to bring about a change in favor of Wohlwend among the decision-makers.
Wohlwend was informed on Wednesday morning that the board of directors had decided to release him immediately. For the remainder of this season, HCD have placed their trust in the two current assistant coaches, Waltteri Immonen and Glen Metropolit, to lead the team as assistant coaches. In addition, Dino Wieser, who has been working as an assistant coach for youngsters since his retirement, will complete a stage with the first team and support Immonen and Metropolit.
Metropolitan/Immonen take over
There would certainly have been good reasons to extend the contract with Wohlwend. In terms of sport, he stabilized the HCD surprisingly quickly after the Arno Del Curto era and the Graubünden team are not doing badly this season either, leaving the impression of a well-functioning team.
But there were also good reasons to separate. It was also repeatedly said that Wohlwend was very exhausting. And that the horses keep running away with him. His bottle throw in the last playoffs is legendary. There are said to have been regular emotional outbursts of this kind within the internal circle as well. And as a result, his standing in the entire club and in the team suffered.
