French shoot at Favre after Nice dismissal
“He has no access to the young players”
The Swiss coach Lucien Favre has been fired at Nice. The 65-year-old’s image suffered greatly during his second engagement with the club.

For Lucien Favre, the second term as coach at OGC Nice ended early. On Monday, the club bosses announced that the club no longer wants to count on the services of the 65-year-old Vaud native.
Favre’s final downfall was the 0-1 cup defeat against third division Le Puy last Saturday. But the criticism of the Swiss coach goes beyond the inglorious cup-out. The French media are harsh on Favre.
Favre clearly noticed the crisis
In Nice, Lucien Favre found difficult circumstances and an incomplete squad, writes the French journal “L’Équipe”, for example. But Favre never managed to reach the young players at Nice properly. “He never managed to pass on his tactical knowledge to the young players. He never had access to them,” was the harsh verdict from “L’Équipe”.
It was also noted that the coach was aware that the club management had not had his full conviction behind him for a long time. «Lately, Favre only held minimalist press conferences. After the end of the cup, he was obviously depressed and didn’t seem to have any solutions left,” L’Équipe continued.

Nice sawed off the coach during the World Cup
The journalist Maxime Tilliette from the station “RMC Sport” also describes Favre’s return to Nice as a disappointment. “Favre could never live up to the expectations the fans had of him before the season.” The Swiss has to leave the southern French with an average of 1.27 points per game after just over five months. For comparison: Favre scored an average of 1.54 points per match during his first engagement in Nice (2016-2018).
Several French media reported unanimously that the disgrace in the Coupe de France on Saturday was only the last straw that broke the camel’s back. The decision not to continue working with Favre was apparently made in Nice during the World Cup in December.
