Tigers redhead Cody Eakin turns heads
He makes the “mullet” trendy again
He’s already been voted NHL’s player with the best haircut. Tigers star Cody Eakin (31) is making the mullet, which has been frowned upon, trendy again. Blick was present at the last hairdresser’s appointment.

Canadian Cody Eakin has been playing for the SCL Tigers since the end of October.

When Cody Eakin was once teased at school for his red hair, he never dreamed that one day he would be in the spotlight because of his haircut. But he has been doing this for five years: with a mullet, better known in this country as a “mullet”. His hair is cut short in the front, and the star striker of the SCL Tigers leaves it long in the back.
He had the haircut missed in the 2018 Vegas Golden Knights playoffs. “We had the hairdresser come into the dressing room and he cut a mullet for some of the players and me,” says Eakin. The team made it to the Stanley Cup finals. So a lucky charm. “But just me and Jon Merrill (at Minnesota, ed.) still wear it.” The Canadian has his hair trimmed every few weeks, like this week before the important game against Lausanne (live on Blick TV from 7:25 p.m.).
“I just like it when my hair hangs out at the back”Cody Eakin
He says of the advantages of the mullet: «I now have a routine with styling. It only takes a few minutes. I just like it when my hair is hanging out at the back.” Also on the ice under the helmet. Sometimes, he says, he’s been teased by opponents. Not because of the hairstyle, but rather because of the hair color. Because thanks to the hairstyle, he was voted the NHL player with the best haircut in a player poll in 2022. Probably because of his appearance at the “Heritage Outdoor Game” with Buffalo in March 2022. “I was allowed to walk in without a helmet and with sunglasses.”
Mullet Championships in the USA
Did he then inspire a new trend at the latest? “Maybe,” he grins, “one of the following days a boy of about seven attended our training and he had exactly the same haircut as me, even in red.” The USA has been gripped by the mullet boom since the corona pandemic. Since 2020, there have even been nationwide “Mullet Championships”. “Sometimes I look at photos online, there are pictures of kids with incredible mullets.” Perhaps the Tigers striker will also trigger a boom in Emmental.
“Outside there is simply more space and freedom. But there are no goals scored there.”Cody Eakin
Eakin and his family love Langnau. And the ex-NHL player (Buffalo, Winnipeg, Vegas, Dallas, Washington) has also made new friends with hockey after his ice age and role in the NHL had only shrunk. Incidentally, the larger ice field itself was not the challenge when getting used to it. “Outside there is simply more space and freedom. But there are no goals scored there.” Rather, the 31-year-old is surprised by the completely different game systems of the opponents. “And from the structure and discipline.” This is also needed in the duels against Lausanne at the weekend, which are important for the Tigers.
