All open-air games at the Australian Open were briefly interrupted due to high temperatures.
Heat alert at the Australian Open! Due to temperatures of up to 37 degrees, the games on the outdoor courts were briefly interrupted on Tuesday, and a training ban was imposed until 5 p.m. local time (7 a.m. CEST). The interruptions did not apply to the games under a closed roof.
Shortly before, a former Grand Slam winner fell victim to the heat: Spaniard Garbine Muguruza struggled with the temperatures throughout the game and suffered from cramps several times in the third set. In the end, she lost in two sets against the Belgian Elise Mertens.
In the meantime, the conditions have calmed down a bit and the open-air game has also resumed. (bjl)
