The Swiss NHL cracks are also in the mood for scoring in the new year.
Nico Hischier scored the 3:3 equalizer for the New Jersey Devils with a Buebetrickli in the 49th minute. His 16th goal of the season is beautiful to look at, but in the end it doesn’t do much for his team.
The Devils went ahead for the first time shortly after the equalizer, but ultimately had to admit defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes in a penalty shootout. This after they took negligent penalties in the final phase and conceded the equalizer in the 56th minute when they were twice the number. Hischier’s teammate Jonas Siegenthaler doesn’t have a scorer point, but is used for almost 22 minutes – only three field players from the Devils are longer on the ice.
Sharks-Meier with the 21st goal of the season
From the last 13 games, the Devils could only celebrate two wins. The Hurricanes are different. They celebrate the 11th win in a row and set up the most successful series in the club’s history.
Timo Meier can also be celebrated as a goal scorer. In the 44th minute, Meier was spot on when the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks (with Philipp Kurashev) 5:2. After a rebound from the opposing keeper, he maneuvers the puck over the line. For Meier it is the 21st goal this season. Only eight players have netted more often so far. (bir)
