Simon Bodenmann has scored ten goals for the ZSC Lions so far this season.
The ZSC Lions are off the roll. After six losses in a row, they risk missing out on going straight to the playoffs. Haperts especially when scoring goals. One of the few who achieve their usual return is someone who knows that he will no longer play for Zurich next season: Simon Bodenmann. He also scored against Lugano on Saturday (2-3 nP) and has ten goals this season.

The 2013 World Cup silver hero is looking for a job. And that turns out to be resinous, even though he gets an average of 15 minutes of ice time in the top-class ZSC storm, comes into play in the power play and is robust in the duels. “Since I’m in good shape, I thought it would be easier to find a job,” admits Bodenmann. “I’m a bit surprised at how big the influence of the vintage is.”
Without bitterness, he stated that the clubs have “more leeway” after the increase in the number of foreigners and are waiting longer. “They say that they prefer to rely on younger players, which I actually think is a good thing.”
Masters degree in Business Administration
Patience is required at Bodenmann. It used to be different. In August 2014, the then Kloten striker settled his medium-term future and signed for three years in Bern. And when his contract with SCB expired, the two-time champion got down to business at the end of October: a four-year contract with ZSC.
In addition to his age, Bodenmann, who will be 35 on March 2nd, still has a handicap in the market. The label of the big earner sticks to him. “We can’t afford you,” he says before he can register his demands. “I’m aware that I’m no longer one of the top earners and I’m willing to accept cuts in wages for the right overall package.”
Bodenmann has completed a distance learning course in business administration with a master’s degree and, thanks to the “Athletes Network”, can work two afternoons at the real estate company Swiss Prime Site Solutions in Zurich. “That’s good for me. That’s not how I always have my head in ice hockey. Because I tend to brood when things don’t go according to plan. I can also find out what I want to do after my career.”
But first he wants to keep playing. But where? “I’m flexible. My girlfriend and I have no children,” says the wing, who lives in Hünenberg ZG. “I don’t put any pressure on myself and I’m in good spirits.” Maybe Ambri will snap. The Ticino have already had the best experience with a Swiss veteran with Dario Bürgler (35).
