Yann Sommer in Bayern dress: The first few days in Munich were eventful.

Yann Sommer at a virtual media event for Swiss media about…
… the debut ritual for new players at Bayern:
It’s the same as in Mönchengladbach: you have to sing. So far there hasn’t been time for that. Maybe I’ll sing “No Diggity” again like I did with Borussia. That worked out well (laughs). But there are still two or three players who haven’t sung either. So I’m very relaxed about it.
… about contact with Gladbach successor Jonas Omlin:
We had kept each other informed of the state of affairs. I really appreciate Jonas as a goalie and as a person. I didn’t have to recommend him. Because you don’t have to be a particularly good scout to see that Jonas fits in very well with Mönchengladbach.
… the dismissal of Bayern goalie coach Toni Tapalovic:
Toni Tapalovic received me well, but we didn’t have much contact in the short time. We only played together in the two final training sessions. Then came the internal decision. At the moment, Tom Starke (ex-professional, goalie coach for youngsters, ed.) is doing the training.
… Bayern’s cold start with two draws:
Of course we are not satisfied with the start. But there was no game for two months and we started straight away with the top game in Leipzig. We could have done a lot better against Cologne at home. We are aware that as Bayern Munich you always have to win and that you are the hunted in the table. But now comes the chance in the top game against Frankfurt to make up for it.
… the Bayern gene and the “mia san mia” mentality:
The players here know exactly what it takes to be successful. But I always want maximum success. That’s why I accepted the challenge. It’s a challenge to recall my performances in the past here in Munich. It appeals to me that FC Bayern always aim for every title. There are many leaders in the team who have won a lot at a young age. It is a valuable experience for me to strive for success with these players. It’s a broadening of horizons.
… the threatening substitute bench when Manuel Neuer returns:
I don’t think about possible scenarios in summer. I’m looking forward to all the tasks in the Champions League, in the cup and in the Bundesliga.
… the constant whirlwind surrounding FC Bayern:
Basically, I take it easy. I’m not interested in rumors and speculation. I’m fully concentrating on two key points: playing football successfully and that we feel at home in Munich as quickly as possible in our private lives. At the moment my family is still in Düsseldorf.
… the size of world club FC Bayern:
I was aware of the power Bayern Munich has. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. But in the end it’s football. The most important thing is that I feel the trust of the team and the staff, then you quickly feel comfortable as a goalie in a new place.
