He’s talking about the lightning exit
Will the change Zoff escalate to Michael Frey like in 2018?
Last season Michael Frey was the great Antwerp hero with 24 goals. But now the Bernese Oberlander is confronting his club because of his new joker role.

No longer set in the Antwerp storm: Michael Frey (r., in the game against Westerlo) is frustrated by being a joker and is talking about the immediate departure.

There is actually a party atmosphere at Royal Antwerp. The Belgians knocked out leaders Genk 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the cup. But the media representatives were amazed when an Antwerp star rushed through the interview zone 15 minutes after the final whistle and grumbled: “That was Frey’s last game for Antwerp!”
The player talks about himself: It’s Michael Frey (28). The second-best league clipper of the last season with 24 goals is only a joker.
The Swiss announces his departure. Or did the impulsive Münsinger just get carried away in frustration? Yanko Beeckman is a Belgian football journalist at Nieuwsblad and says to Blick: “He really wants to go. But Antwerp won’t just let him go, they only have two real strikers in the squad.”
World Cup striker ousted Frey
This second clipper is the Dutchman Vincent Janssen (28). The summer newcomer is an Oranje national player and was in the starting eleven at the World Cup in Qatar.
Frey only plays from the start in third place when coach Mark van Bommel sets him up in a two-man attack next to the seeded Holland star. For van Bommel, the calculation works: Janssen has scored 11 times in the league, Frey 7 times.
Four years ago, Frey struck FCZ departure
But the Berner stinks his joker role a lot. According to «Nieuwsblad», Charleroi and Leuven have already put out feelers. But Antwerp blocks. Also because these midfield clubs simply cannot raise Frey’s market value of around 4 million francs. Journalist Beeckman: “More realistic would be a loan.”
Is the exchange problem about Frey now escalating? It’s not the first time he’s engaged in a power struggle with his own club and forced a transfer. The situation is reminiscent of 2018, when the striker was keen to move from FCZ to Fenerbahce. Including a strike in a cup game, a suspension – and the forced change shortly before the end of the transfer period.
