“Had nothing to lose”
Lakers Swede Aberg on his miracle box
His goal alone was worth the fee: Pontus Aberg gave the Lakers a 3-0 lead in prone. This is how the Swede saw the spectacle scene.
It’s at least the goal of the month: In the 37th minute of the duel between the Lakers and Friborg, SCRJ top scorer Roman Cervenka sends his strike partner Pontus Aberg on the road. The Swede is illegally stopped by Friborg defender Ryan Gunderson by tripping his leg.
But that’s not the end of the campaign for Aberg. The 29-year-old falls – and shoots the 3-0 while lying down! What was he thinking at that moment? ‘That I have nothing to lose if he doesn’t go in. Because then there would simply be a penalty,” he says. But Aberg scores. How, he didn’t really see that anymore. The resolution: The puck goes into the goal over the left leg guard of Gottéron goalie Connor Hughes. Aberg nods and grins.
The Swede can be found in NHL highlights – he played for Toronto, Minnesota, Anaheim and Nashville – so many spectacular goals with dribbling and tricks. But none lying on your stomach. That’s now in the NL highlights. (NA)
