Lucien Favre (65) is no longer the coach of Nice. The club confirmed the dismissal in the evening, which the newspaper “L’Équipe” reported in the afternoon.
Favre’s second term at Nice ends after just six months.

The end of Favre’s tenure comes as no surprise. The bitter end of Nice in the French Cup on Sunday against the third division team Le Puy Foot (0:1) was the famous defeat too much for the Vaud native. According to “L’Equipe”, Favre had chaired the team meeting on Monday morning before those responsible informed him about the release in the early afternoon. According to “Nice-Matin”, the Swiss also lost support in the team.
In addition to Favre, his assistant, Christophe Moulin from Neuchâtel, also has to vacate his place. Frenchman Didier Digard, the previous coach of the youth team, will take care of the team on an interim basis until further notice.
Only 8 wins in 26 games
Favre returned to the Côte d’Azur for a second term last June after his dismissal in Dortmund in December 2020, having worked successfully there between 2016 and 2018. The club remembers his first season in particular, when Favre breathed new life into the team and led them to third place behind Monaco and PSG. “Even if the paths are now parting ways, the entire club pays him one thing above all: deep respect,” writes the club on its website.
However, Favre’s second term lasted only a good six months and was under a bad star from the start. Nice started the season with just two points from four games with Swiss full-back Jordan Lotomba, and only eight wins in 26 competitive games.
After 17 rounds, Nice is only 11th in Ligue 1, 23 points behind leaders PSG and 12 points behind their place in the European Cup. Not enough for the high demands of the club, which has been supported by the British company Ineos since 2021.
