Carlos da Silva, in the second half of the season Lugano lost both games against St. Gallen. Why should it be any different in the final on Sunday?
Carlos da Silva: St. Gallen worked well over the winter and achieved great results in the second half of the season. But these two games don’t count on Sunday, the cup final will be a completely different game. I’m very confident for the game because we were always ready when it mattered. For example in the cup semi-final against Lucerne.
For the new club owner Joe Mansueto, the title would be a perfect debut.
Of course it would be a great start for the new owner. But above all it would be a great thing for all FC Lugano employees, for all fans, for the city and the whole region. But FC Lugano has had a good drive since the new stadium was accepted.
It may not be easy for you personally in Lugano at the moment.
Because you drive around with a St. Gallen license plate…
… (laughs). You’re right: That’s why I had to listen to one or the other saying. But it’s not like I have a connection to FC St. Gallen. We’ve lived in Rapperswil for the last few years, so people tend to orientate themselves more towards Zurich. No, seriously now: I feel great here at FC Lugano and give everything for the club. I want that cup win – no matter what letters are on our license plate.
For you personally it is the second cup final after 2004.
Please don’t remind me! The fact that we lost with GC in the final against lower-class FC Wil was very bitter. That still hurts today. But it also shows that anything is possible in a cup final.
