Strong start in Adelaide
Marc-Andrea Hüsler beats last year’s finalists
Zurich’s Marc-Andrea Hüsler is still in good early form this year. At the ATP tournament in Adelaide (Aus) he is in the round of 16.
Marc-Andrea Hüsler also wins the third singles of the season in Australia. (Archive)
Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 55) starts the last preparatory tournament before the Australian Open in Adelaide with a 4: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 4 win over Arthur Rinderknech (ATP 45).
This means that Hüsler remains undefeated in the new year. At the United Cup he defeated Kazakh Timofey Skatow and Poland Daniel Michalski. The success over Arthur Rinderknech in two and a half hours is the most valuable, however, because it is the first win against a top 50 player in the new season. Rinderknech was in the final in Adelaide a year ago (loss to Thanasi Kokkinakis) and in the quarter-finals at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
Hüsler in better shape than the opponent
Conditional advantages for Marc-Andrea Hüsler decided against Rinderknech. From the second set, the Swiss dominated the game. He managed the decisive break right at the beginning of the third set.
In the round of 16, Hüsler meets the number 3 seeded Russian Karen Chatschanow (ATP 20). (cat/SDA)
