Kylian Mbappé could hardly believe it.
Almost single-handedly, Kylian Mbappé ensured that France got back into the game in the final of the World Cup in Qatar. The 24-year-old saved his colors in the penalty shoot-out with three goals. In the end, however, the title defense didn’t materialize. The striker struggles with this defeat. “I don’t think I’ll ever digest it.”
Nevertheless, Mbappé now wants to concentrate fully on his club PSG again. “I told my teammates. There is no reason why the club should pay for the failure of the national team. Because they are two very different situations.” In his first league game after the World Cup break, he shot his team to victory against Strasbourg in added time.
Mbappé is looking forward to Messi’s return
Mbappé admitted that he had “very complicated hours” in the hustle and bustle after the World Cup final. He surprised by returning to training with the club immediately after the World Cup. “I told the coach before the final that I would come back quickly, regardless of the result. I felt good and I wanted to be back straight away, also because we had two important games ahead of us.”
The ridicule of the Argentinian players after the final against him leaves the striker cold. “These celebrations are not my thing. I don’t waste energy on such fleeting things. All that matters to me is that I do my best for myself and for my club. We’re waiting for Leo (Messi) to come back and score again for us and get wins. I discussed with Leo after the match. I congratulated him. It was a vital match for him, and for me too.” (SDA/mab)
