$18 million in prize money!
McIlroy wins Tour Championship after comeback
After a strong comeback, Rory McIlroy (33) wins the Tour Championship of the US PGA Tour in Atlanta and takes home prize money of 18 million dollars.
Rory McIlroy celebrates a great triumph at the Tour Championship.
After 2016 and 2019, the Northern Irishman is the first golfer to secure the trophy for the third time in the final tournament of the top 30 professionals in the FedEx Cup rankings.
At 21 under par, McIlroy took a one-shot lead over American Scottie Scheffler and South Korean Im Sung-Jae, who tied for 2nd place. The top seeded Scheffler was six shots ahead of McIlroy going into the fourth and final round, but then he blundered with a round of 73. With 66 and 63 respectively in the 4th and 3rd round, McIlroy manages to catch up.
“It’s a turbulent time for men’s golf right now. I try to defend what I think is the best place to play top golf at every opportunity, »says McIlroy about his title win. The Northern Irishman is considered a great advocate of the PGA Tour. Several other top golfers have joined the Saudi Arabia-sponsored LIV tournament series and filed lawsuits against the PGA Tour after being suspended. (SDA)
