Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding
Men’s relay without Hartweg knocked off
Because Niklas Hartweg is absent in Ruhpolding at short notice, the Swiss biathlon team has to improvise in the men’s relay – and is unable to keep up.
Sebastian Stalder was strong again on the shooting range, but then many mistakes crept in in the relay.
It’s a day to forget for the Swiss men’s relay in Ruhpolding. First team leader Niklas Hartweg calls in sick, then many things go wrong on the 4 x 7.5 kilometers. In the end, the performance of the Swiss Ski team was only enough for 17th place.
Sebastian Stalder was unlucky with a fall in a tight corner, but shot clean and made a solid Swiss start overall. After that, the team is literally passed through. Jeremy Finello, Hartweg replacement Dajan Danuser and Serafin Wiestner allow themselves too many misses. In the end, there are 13 for Switzerland – three bitter penalties.
Norway secured the relay victory for the third time this winter. In front of the local heroes from Germany and the long-leading French.
It continues in Ruhpolding on Saturday with the women’s relay race over 4 x 6 kilometers (2:25 p.m.). (mpe)
