Former ski racer Rosi Mittermaier dies at the age of 72.
Former ski racer Rosi Mittermaier passed away on Wednesday at the age of 72 after a serious illness. “Felt peacefully with the family” is the Olympic champion. Mittermaier had already spent Christmas with the family. Apparently her great wish after it became clear that there was no longer any chance of a cure for the 72-year-old’s cancer. This is reported by “Bild.de”.
Felix Neureuther broke off the slalom comment
The grief in the family is great after the death of the three-time world champion. Ameli Neureuther, daughter of the late ski icon, says goodbye to her mother with two emotional Instagram posts. For a black and white picture of the young Rosi, the 41-year-old writes “The sky shines” and adds a white heart. In a second post, Neureuther shares an image showing a snowy mountainside with the sun shining in the background. “With eternal love and gratitude,” she writes.
On Wednesday, on the day of death, Felix Neureuther commented on the men’s night slalom in Garmisch for ARD. After the first run, however, the 38-year-old broke off the transmission and left the ski circus.

The grief after the death of Mittermaier is huge. Numerous people from the sports world mourn the deceased ski icon. For example, IOC President Thomas Bach (69): “Rosi Mittermaier was an extremely likeable and credible ambassador for sport, who always approached people openly and modestly. She inspired us all with her warmth and laughter.”
The Swiss ski legend Bernhard Russi also mourns the loss of “Gold-Rosi”. Russi Mittermaier will be remembered as a “buddy, friend, sister and role model, snow princess and dream”, as he writes in his obituary.
The grief of the three-time Olympic champion Maria Höfl-Riesch is also great. The 38-year-old says goodbye to the ski icon on Instagram: “Not only was she a great role model as an athlete, she also impressed as a person with her modesty and lovable nature. In addition, Rosi has made a significant contribution to the fact that women’s sport is perceived in a completely different way. Dear Rosi, thank you for everything!»
