Felix Neureuther with the microphone – also this weekend in Wengen. Like here in Bormio in 2019.
“Felix, go to Wengen”, Rosi Mittermaier (1950 – 2023) wished before she died. That’s what the mourning Felix Neureuther tells the ARD. The 38-year-old German explains why he did the TV appearance as an expert on the Lauberhorn ten days after the death of his famous mother. With his family, “a bit of normality must return in the process of deep grief”.
Mother Rosi Mittermaier lost the six-month battle with cancer on January 4th. She was a ski icon, winning Olympic gold in Innsbruck in 1976 in downhill and slalom and the overall World Cup in the same year. Before she died, she was able to spend Christmas at home with her family before “passing peacefully asleep”.
With her husband Christian Neureuther (73), also a former ski racer, Rosi Mittermaier leaves behind the children Ameli Neureuther (41, fashion designer) and Felix Neureuther, who won 11 slaloms and one giant slalom in the World Cup and is therefore the most successful German alpine skier. Like his father, he won two slaloms in Wengen.
Felix Neureuther ended his career in spring 2019. A few months later he became a TV expert. That obviously gives him so much that the TV appearance in Wengen was even a big concern for his dying mother. (str)
