Swiss champions FC Zurich have signed striker Daniel Afriyie. The 21-year-old joins the bottom of the Super League table from the Ghanaian first division club Hearts of Oak. The contract runs until the summer of 2026.
Afriyie was in Ghana’s World Cup squad but did not feature in Qatar. T he 2-0 win against Switzerland in Abu Dhabi on November 17, on the other hand, he was on the pitch for 62 minutes.
FCZ coach Bo Henriksen’s most urgent transfer request was thus fulfilled. “Even though we improved towards the end of the second half of the season, it was of course clear that we had to continue to improve the offensive and could use reinforcements in terms of personnel. You didn’t have to be a professor to see that,” says the Dane with a smile.
However, Afriyie is not flying with the team to Turkey for the week-long training camp in Belek. FCZ travel to Turkey on Wednesday, Afriyie is currently still in action with the Ghanaian national team. FCZ will start the second half of the season on January 21 in Lucerne.
