She is an Olympic ski champion, a trained pilot, has a master’s degree in physics and is a delegate of the Sports Aid Foundation Board. But now a new chapter awaits Dominique Gisin (37): she will be a mother for the first time.
“I’m really happy,” she says to Blick. Gisin is eight months pregnant, she and her boyfriend are expecting the birth of a girl. The former world-class downhill skier, who won Olympic gold in Sochi in 2014 and retired from ski racing in March 2015, does not want to reveal more.
Soon-aunt Michelle Gisin is already beaming
Gisin explains that it’s perfectly fine to talk to her sister Michelle (29) about it. The last active member of the Gisin trio – brother Marc (34) also drove long races before he retired two years ago – is surprised at first when Blick asks: “What is it like to be an aunt soon?” She says: “I didn’t even know that this was known.”
However, the smile on her face reveals how happy she is. “That’s super special. Not just for me, but for the whole family. I am also very happy. Dominique doesn’t want to make it big, but we all can’t wait – it’s beautiful.”

Dominique helped her sister a lot
You have to know: Michelle and Dominque have an intimate relationship, their contact is still very close. It was Dominique who, after retiring, helped her younger sister to gain a foothold in the fast disciplines. For two years she traveled with Michelle to the various World Cups to explain the courses to her. She quickly implemented her tips – they were instrumental in making Michelle one of the best all-rounders in the World Cup. In 2018, at the Pyeongchang Olympics, Dominique was the first to congratulate after Michelle’s combination gold ride.
How things will continue professionally with Dominique Gisin is still open. In addition to her work at Sporthilfe, she is also an ambassador for the Swiss Red Cross and gives presentations on mental strength in sport, among other things.
