Alvaro Morata can use a nice Atlético attack to lead.
The “Derbi madrileño” in the Copa del Rey on Thursday evening is an emotional roller coaster ride.
In the first half it’s Atlético Madrid who get a lot more out of the game. The guests are defiant, powerful and uncomfortable in the duels everywhere on the pitch. The reward for the committed performance comes in the 19th minute. With two quick passes, the Real back team is wonderfully played, which Alvaro Morata only needs to push in.
Savic-Red lets Derby tip over
After the change of sides, the home team also checks into the game – really! Los Blancos press for the equalizer but bit their teeth on Diego Simeone’s side’s notorious bulwark for a long time. Only in the 79th minute can Rodrygo provide the long-deserved compensation.
Finally, Stefan Savic becomes the tragic figure in the extra time. The 32-year-old Montenegrin picked up two yellow cards within two minutes and left the derby early in the 99th minute. The real offensive thanks only five minutes later in the form of a Benzema goal. Vinicius Junior delivered the final point in extra time with the 3:1.

After the end of the Champions League and the already large gap in the league, Atlético Madrid’s last chance of winning a title this year has been lost. Real Madrid’s next opponent will be drawn on Friday.
Comert and Valencia fail
The last Copa del Rey semi-final ticket goes to Athletic Bilbao. The Basques beat Valencia 3-1 away, who started with Nati defender Eray Cömert. Iker Muniain put Bilbao in front before an Oscar de Marcos own goal put Genaro Gattuso’s team back into the game.
Shortly before the break, Nico Williams put the visitors back in front with help from brother Inaki. Fifteen minutes before the end, Mikel Vesga converts a foul penalty and decides the game in Bilbao’s favour. (mab/cat)
