Reto Berra had an operation in October last year.

In the middle of the month, Reto Berra (36) told Blick that he was aiming for his comeback on February 3 and the Friborg – ZSC Lions game. But now he intervenes again on the last day of January. Gottéron made this change of plan because Connor Hughes (26) injured himself in training and is out. However, it should only be a slight injury to the shooting star.
Berra will therefore be in goal on Tuesday night when Friborg tackle an important game in the fight for sixth place in Lugano. In the newspaper “La Liberté” on Tuesday, coach Christian Dubé said that despite a “good training” on Monday, the national goalie was not mentally ready to make his comeback. Now he still has to step into his pants prematurely.
Hughes played himself into focus
Reto Berra has only played six league games this season. On October 7, after a win in Davos, he decided to put an end to his back pain and lie down on the operating table. During his absence, Friborg could initially rely on an excellent Connor Hughes. The Canadian-Swiss also earned his first national squad with his strong performances in December. In the new year, however, the Canadian-Swiss was no longer quite so stylish.
Still, Hughes has largely held the fort in Berra’s absence. Especially since he had an unfamiliar workload with 34 games in qualifying. During the breaks dedicated to the Swiss national team and the Spengler Cup with Team Canada, he played two more games and worked one day after the other.
Will Reto Berra be ready to take over the baton? The answer will follow at 7.45 p.m. in the Corner Arena in Lugano.
