1/2
Janik Riebli is on the podium for the first time in his career in Livigno.
What a final sprint! Janik Riebli puts a bold exclamation mark in Livigno (It). The 24-year-old from Obwalden ranked third in the skating sprint – and thus secured his first World Cup podium. Only the Norwegian season dominator Johannes Hösflot Kläbo and the Frenchman Richard Jouve are faster.
Valerio Grond, who also qualified for the final, is a good fifth. It is also the best career result in the World Cup for the 24-year-old from Davos, who was U23 World Champion last season.
Ensign beaten by Swedes
Nadine Fähndrich was left behind in Livigno against the strong Swedish competition. The central Swiss has to be content with the thankless fourth place. Bitter: In the end, she was only 17 hundredths short of the podium. In the final piece, the 27-year-old from Eigenthal kept up for a long time, but was ultimately unable to assert herself against third-placed Emma Ribom.
Nothing will come of the fourth World Cup podium this winter for Fähndrich, who has already won three sprint competitions in December (Beitostölen, Davos and Val Müstair).
At the top, Jonna Sundling, who, like Ribom, has returned after a long illness, triumphs ahead of compatriot Maja Dahlqvist. The three Swedes are unbeatable in the final that day. (mpe)
