Leandro Riedi hasn’t been able to stop celebrating lately.
The Swiss tennis pro Leandro Riedi starts the new year the way he ended the old one. At the Challenger tournament in Canberra, the 20-year-old from Zurich is in the final.
The three-set victory in the semifinals against the German Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 150) is already Riedi’s 16th success in a row. In the final he meets Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics (ATP 87), winner of the 2018 Geneva Open.
At the end of November, Riedi had won two Challenger tournaments in a row in Helsinki and Andria and made a big leap in the world rankings. Now he will improve from 157th place to 135th place, and by a further ten positions if he wins the final. Next week he will contest the qualification of a Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open for the first time. (SDA)
