Stefan Rogentin is in really good shape!
Marcel W. Perrenski reporter
The reporter from Radio SRF just doesn’t want to believe it. Although his interview partner Stefan Rogentin has just achieved the first podium finish of his World Cup career at the Lauberhorn Super-G, the conversation is not very emotional. The reporter therefore asks again: “Are you really as calm inside as it appears from the outside?” Rogentin nods: “I try to keep calm in every situation. And most of the time I succeed.”
According to the gusto of his trainers, the Graubünden player acted too cautiously at times. “For a long time I was accused of staying too much in my comfort zone,” reveals the 28-year-old, who grew up in Lenzerheide. But those times are finally a thing of the past. The son of an asset manager has developed enormously in the last two years and this winter he is particularly impressive in the Super-G with his consistency – ninth in Lake Louise, 15th in Beaver Creek, seventh in Bormio and now second in Wengen. Only Norway’s superstar Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (30, 18th World Cup victory) is 27 hundredths faster. But Rogentin is three tenths faster than his brilliant teammate Marco Odermatt in third place.

“Then it starts to tingle all over my body”
Odermatt: “Rogi has been the fastest in training for a few years now. That’s why I’m really happy for him that it worked out in the race.” For a long time it was unclear whether Rogentin really wanted to put ski racing on the map. He also played ice hockey very ambitiously in his youth. This in the role of the center. “At the time, HC Davos signaled their interest in me.” At the age of 14, however, Rogentin ultimately decided against ice hockey.
But the multi-talent still shoots really sharply. At the age of 19, he successfully passed the Graubünden hunting test. And because he wants to live up to the hunting ethics 100 percent, the man, who otherwise can hardly be disturbed by anything else, gets really nervous before every shot at a wild animal. “When I hear a branch snap, my whole body starts to tingle. I am aware that I am interfering with nature with one shot, I am killing a living being. And that certainty should make every hunter nervous.”
Best time in the first Lauberhorn training session
The old hunter’s custom that the shooter should also eat the liver also causes Rogentin a somewhat queasy feeling in his stomach. “I’ve never tasted liver before. I still try it every year. After all, it could be that liver suddenly tastes good to me because the taste sometimes changes.” He’s definitely got a taste for podiums in the World Cup. And that’s why we can expect a lot from the man who, in addition to ski racing, is also working on his master’s degree in business administration. Especially since Rogentin conjured up the best time in the snow on Tuesday in the first practice session for the Lauberhorn descent.
