Stefan Rogentin finished second in the Super-G in Wengen.
Bernhard RussiBlick columnist
An exciting, attractive race, this Super-G at the Lauberhorn prelude. It brings a new Swiss podium rider and a fantastic team effort in conditions that were far better than promised. And nobody wondered if the Super-G is right for Wengen or not.
Apart from the top speed in the Hanegg shot, which I felt was too high (over 140 km/h!), the key points were excellently staged.
It is clear that the fastest is actually the best. On Friday, however, this award goes to Stefan Rogentin with his first podium. He brings the thing down in a stunning, clean ride. His inner peace and confidence in his own abilities make the challenge look easy.
Great joy at the finish: Rogentin drives sensationally on his first World Cup podium(01:02)
For once, he benefits from the willingness to take risks of the two opponents Kilde and Odermatt: both were looking for the limit, both had to save themselves from tricky situations with acrobatics, both losing time as a result. The Minsch Kante at Odermatt and the Kernen-S at Kilde were ready for a drop. But the previous high-flyers have shown why victories in this discipline will only be possible in the near future. Since today, however, also about Stefan Rogentin.
Or, to put it more generally, about the Swiss team. Five Swiss and five other nations were in the top ten. A positive result for the future, which already starts on Saturday.
Feuz on his last Super-G: “I just didn’t want to embarrass myself”(03:37)
