In the final, the 24-year-old Sabalenka from Minsk prevailed 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4 against the Wimbledon champion Jelena Rybakina (WTA 25).
The favored Sabalenka, who had knocked out the last Swiss Belinda Bencic in the round of 16, lost a set in the eleventh game this year for the first time, but in the end kept her nerves under control. She is the second Belarusian after Viktoria Azarenka (Australian Open 2012 and 2013) to triumph in a major tournament.
Sabalenka will jump from 5th to 2nd place in the world rankings on Monday. Moscow-born Kazakh Rybakina will also break into the top ten for the first time. (SDA)
