At the BVB training camp in Marbella (Sp), Sébastien Haller also spoke about the time after the cancer diagnosis.
It’s one of the best football news to start the new year: Sébastien Haller is about to make his comeback on the pitch!
Borussia Dortmund only made the oppressive diagnosis of its star public last summer: a testicular tumor was discovered in the 28-year-old striker.
Haller should finally be able to play for BVB again on Tuesday. A test against Fortuna Düsseldorf is on the agenda. Before that, Sébastien Haller talked again about the anxious last few weeks, the chemotherapy and how he explained the shock diagnosis to his own children.
Communicate the diagnosis to the children via video
When Haller was informed about the tumor found in his testicles, the striker was with Dortmund at the training camp in Bad Ragaz SG. “I immediately thought: I have to go through it now,” explains the Ivorian today to “Bild” with a view to the hard time.
He immediately realized that there was no alternative to the treatment anyway. negative thoughts? Haller didn’t want to let that happen in the first place. He never thought of death.
“I recommend everyone to have themselves checked regularly.”Sebastien Haller
The time was tough anyway. Haller tried to explain the diagnosis to his children using a video. “The hardest part was getting them to understand that while I’m fine right now, I’m sick and need to be hospitalized — even for a few weeks or months.” Even in the simplest moments, the tumor treatment had an impact. “My older son often wanted to jump on me. I had to tell him: ‹not yet›. But now everything is fine.”

Haller lost several kilos
Haller had to endure four chemotherapy treatments and two operations after the cancer was diagnosed. The 1.91m storm tank loses a lot of liquid every time and loses several kilos. “I had hiccups and stomach problems, I couldn’t really taste the food for a while.”
But now Sébastien Haller wants to find his old form again. Last season with Ajax Amsterdam he had scored 21 goals in 31 games. Dream values, which should now also help BVB to attack the top in the second half of the season.
Something is still important to Haller before he wants to concentrate fully on scoring goals again. When asked if he would recommend every football professional to have a urological examination, Haller replies clearly: “No. I would recommend all people, not just footballers, to have regular check-ups. This is extremely important and can save lives.” (cat)
