Bregy and Brigger had a lot to celebrate together in Sion dress (here after beating Aberdeen 3-0 in the 1986 European Cup).
Michael WegmanDeputy Head of Football
Christian Constantin no longer wants to put any money into FC Sion from summer 2024. Then the club will play in the Promotion League, he says. do you believe him
Jean-Paul Brigger: Georges, you can go first.
Georges Bregy: On the one hand, I was surprised by the clarity of his statements. On the other hand neither. He has already started playing poker with the city of Sitten around the tourbillon. We all know that the license agreement expires in the summer of 2024.
With what aim is he playing poker?
Bregy: By painting it so black, he hopes that it will be easier for him to get financial support for the renovations that are due in and around the stadium and that the rent rates will not go up.
Brigger: What Georges says hits the nail on the head. Constantine will not stop.
What supports your thesis is that days after his announcement he said he might want to continue investing if the canton and the city would help financially…
Bregy: … As we said.
Brigger: CC cannot live without FC Sitten.
Can FC Sion live without Constantin?
Bregy: He has invested a lot of money in the club – and has repeatedly made a lot from selling players. But I don’t know the financial situation of the club.
Brigger: FC Sitten has never been dependent on a single person in its history. As far as I know, football is still played eleven against eleven. When Georges and I started at Sion as youngsters, it wasn’t a big team either.
Constantin says they will then play with young Valaisans in the Promotion League.
Bregy: In the summer he brings a Balotelli to Switzerland and says six months later that he doesn’t feel like it anymore. That’s surprising.
The Sion legends Brigger and Bregy
Jean-Paul Brigger was born on December 14, 1957 in St. Niklaus in Valais. At the age of 20 he switched to FC Sion, where he became a legend. The center forward won four cups with the club (1980, 1982, 1986 and 1991) and won the championship once (1992). In 379 games in Sion dress, the 36-national player scored 121 goals. In 1992 he resigned. He then worked as a coach (Sion and Lucerne), among other things.
Georges Bregy was born on January 17, 1958 in Raron VS. He switched to FC Sion at the age of 21. He celebrated two cup victories (1980 and 1982. During his active years, the gifted midfielder and free kick specialist also played for YB and Lausanne. After the 1994 World Cup (“there is only one Georges Bregy”) he resigned. Like Brigger, Bregy also worked as a Trainer – including at FCZ and Lausanne.

One sentence each about Balotelli?
Brigger: For a short time he was one of the greats in world football. I can’t say how he’s doing with manners now. I’ve never seen him live. Georges is better informed.
Bregy: He’s still far from world class. So far he has five goals under his belt, three of which were penalties. His willingness to run is also not very great.
Would center forward Brigger run more today?
Bregy: Seriously, it’s hard to find a center forward as self-sacrificing and helpful to the team as Jean-Paul was.
Brigger: Thanks Georges. This is probably called Valais solidarity.
Do you want to return the flowers?
Brigger: There’s nothing to argue about his abilities. He was one of the greatest players Switzerland has ever had. If Bregy or Alain Geiger had lived in another country, they would have become world stars.
In the Promotion League, world-class players would no longer appear in Valais.
bridges: Let’s be honest: the great footballers don’t play in Switzerland anyway. I’m old school: what counts for me are dedication, heart and passion. Just one example: Georges, when was that when you played for Martigny?
Bregy: 1987/88.
Brigger: We had to go down to Georges in Martigny with Sion in the promotion/relegation round. There were almost 9000 spectators in the stadium, a real folk festival.
Bregy: Stadium record in Martigny.
Brigger: Exactly, that’s what I mean. The Valais are crazy about football. If you weren’t in the Super League for two years, the world wouldn’t end here. Football will continue in Valais even without CC.
“So far he has only bought strong individual players, never put together a homogeneous team.”Georges Bregy
Who won then, Bregy or Brigger?
Bregy: The Brigger…
Brigger: … FC Sitten (laughs).
You are both two of the greatest Valais football legends. Why don’t you buy Sion shares?
Brigger: Certainly not at the moment! Olympiques des Alpes is cute. But my heart belongs to FC Sitten. No discussion. Georges, you?
Bregy: No, thank you. I don’t have the cash for that either.
And what about other functions at FC Sion? For example as head of sports?
Bregy: I’m doing very well in Zurich. Also, although I’ll be 65 this year, I’ll continue working for another year.
Brigger: For me it’s simple: without CC it could be interesting. Otherwise it is not an issue.
Bregy: He could use a sports director. So far he has only bought strong individual players, never put together a homogeneous team. If Valais were more patient, CC would play for the title every season with its investments.
Brigger: He can’t stand anyone next to him.
Bregy: Right. Constantin would certainly not listen to us.
A year ago it seemed like Gelson Fernandes would be his successor.
Brigger: That was a sweet story. A huge fanfare and six months later Fifa comes along and everything is dropped.
Bregy: There is no place next to CC. I think you just have to accept that. As long as he is the big investor, he also has the right to determine everything. At the end of the day, it only hurts his own wallet.
Brigger: He has his way of leading, we have a different one.
“This is psychological terror!”Jean Paul Brigger
Christian Constantin was once a goalie at Xamax. Mr. Brigger, you played against him twice with Sion in the NLA.
Brigger: Did I really?
Yes, in a 1-1 draw in 1977 and in April 1979 when Sion beat Xamax 1-0. They both scored goals for Sion.
Brigger: Then I put at least two eggs in his nest. (laughs)
He says patrons like him are extinct. And he doesn’t believe that a serious investor would put money into FC Sion.
Bregy: He laid this egg himself. This is his construct.
Brigger: CC is a really smart guy so I not when he says something like that. This is psychological terror!
And what if he really is right and Sion has to make a fresh start in the Promotion League in a year and a half?
Brigger: Yes and if so! The world won’t end there, the Rhone will continue to flow through Valais and we’ll still play football. And maybe experience great moments at the same time.
Bregy: Yes, with young, hungry people from Valais like we were back then.
Brigger: You have to let them play like we did back then. If I had had to sit on the bench for half a year, I would have said:
