Hermann Maier became the victim of a nasty scam.
A 21-year-old Slovenian was on a raid in Salzburg and Styria in the summer. Using a brazen scam, he rented e-bikes from seven different shops and then resold them for a profit. One prominent name is among the victims.
As the “Krone” reports, Hermann Maier is one of the victims. The Slovenian borrowed several bikes from the ski school of the Austrian ski legend. But these no longer appeared. The damage at Maier’s school alone amounts to over 18,000 euros.
Perpetrator sentenced to 18 months
The young man got hold of a total of 21 e-bikes and caused damage of 105,000 euros. But only a short time later, the Slovenian was caught by the authorities.
At the trial on Wednesday, the perpetrator confessed. The man, who had already been convicted several times in his home country, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He also has to compensate for part of the damage. (mab)
