Flurina (8) and Valeria (5) are enthusiastic skiers.
“I can finally ski again!” says Flurina (8) with a broad grin on her face. “She can hardly wait until winter comes,” confirms her father Pascal Degen (40). The family of four from Tschoppenhof BL spends almost every free weekend in Grindelwald, where they own a holiday apartment. “For us it’s like coming home to our second home,” says Andrea Degen (36). The youngest daughter Valeria (5) is already skiing down the slopes.
From Basel-Land to the Bernese Oberland – a stone’s throw for the Degens. “We can get there in a good 2.5 hours by public transport, and thanks to the new Grindelwald Terminal we are quickly in the middle of the ski area,” says the managing director of DERO AG. The family even manages to get to the slopes in less than two hours by car. “The children love it too, and the railway staff always help where they can. Everyone is nice and helpful», adds Andrea Degen.
The girls like action
The two girls learned to ski in the Jungfrau Ski Region and have been enthusiastic winter sports enthusiasts ever since. “I love to drive fast,” says Flurina. «What I like most are the slopes that lead through the forest.» Valeria, who is only five years old, is in no way inferior to her older sister: “I like the blue slopes, so I always squat down!”
One ski pass for the entire Jungfrau ski region
Arrival and departure with the Bernese Oberland Railway is now included in the ski pass. Adults pay 75 francs, young people only 45 francs. Winter hiking and sledging including a trip to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is available with the Top of Europe winter pass. Available as a multi-day pass (3-8 days) from CHF 179.

There is a lot on offer for children in the ski area. The Lily Fun Slope awaits the little ones on Grindelwald-First with fun obstacles. The wave hollows, banked curves and Lily figures help children to improve their driving skills in a playful way. “The ski cross slope is built in such a way that Flurina and Valeria can really let off steam,” enthuses Andrea Degen. “You can jump over small jumps, make turns, and the speed is also measured.”
One of the two brave children’s favorite slopes is the famous Lauberhorn descent. Where the ski cracks usually compete in the World Cup. No fear? “No, that’s cool and fun!” says Flurina, and Valeria nods enthusiastically.
The family of four strengthens itself at lunchtime for the curve fun in the afternoon.
211 kilometers of perfectly groomed pistes await winter sports fans in the Jungfrau Ski Region. And because mountain air also makes you hungry, there are culinary highlights for hungry mouths in the restaurants. “What we particularly like is the selection in the Eigergletscher restaurant and in the Kleine Scheidegg mountain restaurant,” says Pascal Degen. “We always treat ourselves to a breather at the ski bar to recharge our batteries for the rest of the day.”
Sledging fun for Flurina and Valeria on the Eiger Run.
The two girls also have a tip up their sleeve. “If you don’t just want to ski, you can let off steam sledding,” says Flurina. Her favorite toboggan run is Rita’s Speedway from the Mannlichen to the Holenstein middle station. “This path also leads through the forest, and you’re super fast!” Valeria likes the Eiger Run, a 13 km long toboggan safari. “This slope is so long that it takes forever to get to the finish,” enthuses the five-year-old. Well then, onto the slopes, get set, go!
