Marc Rochat grew up on the outskirts of Lausanne.

Marc Rochat is one of the last rock ‘n’ rollers in the ski circus. The son of the former Swiss Ski Vice President Jean-Philippe Rochat loves to play the guitar and likes to drink beer.
Unlike his teammates, the slalom specialist didn’t grow up in the mountains, but on the outskirts of Lausanne. The fact that the 30-year-old nevertheless made it into the World Cup is mainly due to his parents’ holiday residence in Crans-Montana.
In the Valais posh ski resort, Marc admired guys like Alberto Tomba and Hermann Maier when he was a boy at a World Cup final. «Tomba and Maier not only fascinated with their skiing skills. With their cheeky sayings and gestures, these champions also put on a terrific show after the race. Unfortunately, such show performances are neglected in skiing today,” complains Rochat.
But now the Romand put on a really good show at the night slalom in Garmisch on a badly damaged, completely sodden slope. Thanks to the fourth-best time in the second run, Rochat improved from 23rd to 7th place and thus achieved the second-best result of his World Cup career. In 2018 the slalom specialist was sixth in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia).
He feared a broken arm
Shortly before Christmas, the alpine rocker still had the blues. «In Madonna di Campiglio I had the bad fear that I broke my arm when I failed in the second run. Luckily I was wrong and now I finally have the result I worked long and hard for.”
Daniel Yule also travels from Garmisch to Adelboden with a satisfied expression on his face, although the triumphant Madonna di Campiglio in Garmisch missed the podium by 25 hundredths in fourth place. “I usually have a hard time on such salty and soft snow, and I felt miserable in both runs. That’s why I can live very well with the end result.”
Henrik Kristoffersen (28) is overjoyed. The Norwegian, who has been showing off strongly again this season, secures his 29th World Cup victory with a mega lead of 1.22 seconds. It is Kristoffersen’s first triumph on Van Deer skis produced by his one-time arch-rival Marcel Hirscher.
