St. Gallen’s problem with the majority

Hanging heads at FC St. Gallen after the away bankruptcy in Zurich.

One point from two games: FC St. Gallen started the new year with the handbrake on. He played both against FC Basel a week ago and against FC Zurich for long stretches with one man more. 109 minutes total overtime – excluding overtime.
But in both games, the FCSG does not benefit from it. From the 54th minute, the Eastern Swiss played against Basel with a majority of 1:1. The winning goal, however, does not want to succeed despite many chances. In addition, Captain Görtler misses a penalty in the final phase.
Zeidler: “It’s very annoying”
In Zurich, St. Gallen has been in the majority for a long time. It’s 74 minutes in total. But scoring goals doesn’t want to work in Letzigrund either. In the end, the trip to Zurich turned into a nightmare because striker Jérémy Guillemenot scored in his own goal in the 88th minute instead of the opponent’s.
“FCZ’s victory is deserved, although the goal conceded just before the end and it was an own goal,” says coach Peter Zeidler. However, his team was anything but convincing. And the German makes no secret of that. “We weren’t good enough. It’s very annoying that we couldn’t keep FCZ at bay.”
Too little inspired St. Gallen
In fact, the Zurich team managed to launch several dangerous counterattacks and always disrupt the opposing attacks early on. The people of St. Gallen, on the other hand, have mostly remained pale. It never got really dangerous in front of Yannick Brecher’s goal. The substitute strikers Willem Geubbels and Leon Dajaku, who were newly signed during the week, have not changed that.
St. Gallen conceded a bitter away bankruptcy, which could have been prevented with more will, creativity and perseverance. The Eastern Swiss have the chance to make amends at home against Servette on Saturday evening. Then the first three of the year is needed to orientate yourself a little upwards in the table.
