Defeat against Denmark in the European Championship final
Swiss curlers gamble away a gold stone in the additional end
The crowning glory at the European Championships in Östersund is denied to the Swiss curlers around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni. They lose the final against Denmark 4:5 after an additional end.

The team that was newly assembled for this season with Briar Schwaller, Carole Howald and the three-time world champions Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Pätz worked out the advantage of the last stone for the additional end, but the players of CC Aarau didn’t know how to use it. Just at the decisive moment, the Danes around Skip Madeleine Dupont stole the only stone in the whole match.
The Swiss had to start the game without the advantage of the last stone because the Danish, the surprise team of the European Championship tournament, had finished the round robin in 1st place. The Swiss women were able to make up for the initial disadvantage in the final in the 6th end when they took a 3-2 lead with the first and only two-man house of the entire game.
As Skip, Silvana Tirinzoni is now a three-time medalist at the European Championships. In 2018 the Zurich native won silver, one year later bronze (SDA/hon)
