Stan Wawrinka is not in the first, provisional Swiss Tennis squad for the Davis Cup match against Germany at the beginning of February.
Will he return to the Swiss Davis Cup team? Stan Wawrinka is initially absent from the squad for the game against Germany in February
Switzerland will play away in Trier on February 3rd and 4th for the first time in the final tournament of the 16 best teams.
Captain Severin Lüthi nominated the same five players as in the 3-2 win in Ecuador last September: Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 56), Dominic Stricker (ATP 118), Leandro Riedi (ATP 157), Alexander Ritschard (ATP 169) and Henri Laaksonen (ATP 172). Stan Wawrinka (ATP 148), who had signaled his willingness to play in the Davis Cup for the first time since 2016, is not there for the time being.
However, the list is provisional. In the world group, the captains now have to name their players one month before a game. According to the regulations, a maximum of three players can be substituted up to one hour before the draw on February 2nd.
Meanwhile, Germany is planning with the best possible cast. World number 12 Alexander Zverev is also nominated, but he is coming back from a long injury break. (SDA)
