Marc-Andrea Hüsler was able to celebrate many successes in the past season.
Marc-Andrea Hüsler was the high-flyer in Swiss tennis last season. In October, the 26-year-old won his first title on the ATP tour in Sofia. He also made a big jump in the ranking and is now in 55th place in the world rankings. But tennis doesn’t seem to be his only passion.
In an interview with ATP, the man from Zurich reveals that he is passionate about taking care of stray cats. Because of this, he always keeps some cat food in his bag in case he comes across one on his travels. “It’s basically just a small snack for cats. You never know when you’ll need it,” says Hüsler.
A cat lover from a young age
He started doing this a long time ago when he was still competing in smaller tournaments. “I would say it was more at the Challenger level where you play in more remote places and there are always stray animals.”
Such moments give Hüsler great pleasure. “I’m a big cat fan and I was like, ‘Why not?’ I always have them in my bag because my family has cats. Why not take some and maybe I can give them to someone and make their day a little bit better.”
Hüsler is currently preparing for the Australian Open. On Monday he will start the tournament against local hero John Millman (ATP 148). Will the cat food bring him luck on the big stage? (mab)
