Even in the second highest league, the players are semi-professionals

Right – or not at all. According to this motto, EVZ CEO Patrick Lengwiler is driving the “Women & Girls Program” project forward. Four months before the planned start of training for the new women’s team, the club is now providing further facts and figures.
Two stars are the figureheads for the future advancement of women and girls: EVZ has officially signed the Nati striker and captain Lara Stalder (28). And with Daniela Diaz (40), the woman who has many and complex experiences was brought on board. Most recently, the Zug native worked at Swiss Ice Hockey as head of women’s hockey, before that as a national and club trainer (ZSC). At Zug, she takes over the position of head coach and is the head of the project.
Your most urgent task now is, together with EVZ sports director Reto Kläy, to put together the team that will play in the second highest league SWHL B next season. There should be enough interested players for that. Because the people of Zug serve with the large, because professional trowel. A budget of around CHF 1.2 million was originally planned for direct entry into the highest league, the PostFinance Women’s League. Despite the detour via SWHL B, those responsible are not moving away from this.
“I didn’t hesitate for a moment about leaving this budget for the whole project,” emphasizes Lengwiler, “that should be a message”. And a strong commitment to empowering women. The budget for the wages of the players is estimated at 480,000 francs, for the training and infrastructure, the people of Zug expect 720,000 francs. “As of today, we still have zero sponsors,” says Lengwiler, “but there are already signals from our partners that they are willing to sponsor.”
The EVZ wants to enable the future players to make a semi-profit. You will be employed 40 percent as a player and may also work a maximum of 60 percent. The trainings take place in the afternoon. And otherwise, the conditions for women should be the same as for men: games in the Bossard Arena including a pre-game show, trips to away games in the official team car, permanent cloakroom in the Bossard Arena, to Materials Provided. The EVZ is thus setting new standards in women’s hockey. Also in the hope of triggering a great movement and development.
