Yann Sommer will probably sign a contract with Bayern Munich until 2025.
After a long transfer thriller, Yann Sommer (34) is moving from Gladbach to FC Bayern Munich as a replacement for Manuel Neuer.
In the end, the German series champion has to dig deep into his pocket for his dream goalie: Including bonuses, up to 10 million euros could flow to Borussia. Now that the deal has been completed, two details in particular are causing the conversation.
Longer contract term than new
Our national goalie will probably sign a contract on Säbener Strasse until 2025. Explosive: The contract of the injured Manuel Neuer only runs until 2024 and is therefore a year less than Sommer’s working paper. A good sign for the Swiss, who will probably not be content with being number 2 behind Neuer for the next season.
For the medical check: Yann Sommer has arrived in Munich(00:41)
For the German national keeper, on the other hand, it is clear that he wants to return between the posts in Munich and also want to guard the goal of his colors at the home European Championship in Germany in summer 2024. However, should Sommer play a strong second half of the season, the 37-year-old Neuer will have a difficult time on his return.
Doesn’t Gladbach believe in Bayern’s CL title?
A closer look at the bonus payments that were agreed between the two clubs also provides a topic of conversation. According to information from the German “Bild”, these can amount to up to 1.5 million euros.
One million would flow to Gladbach if Bayern won the German championship. With a four-point lead over second-placed SC Freiburg, the eleventh title in a row is highly likely.
On the other hand, there should be “only” 250,000 euros for victory in the Champions League. Borussia negotiates a small bonus payment for winning the premier class and does not really believe its league competitor to triumph on the big European stage. The Munich team will meet PSG’s star ensemble of Messi, Mbappé and Neymar in the round of 16 in mid-February.
For victory in the DFB Cup, “the foals” would also collect 250,000 euros. (bjl)
