1/6
In good spirits and well paid: Marco Odermatt.
Alpine skiing: Marco Odermatt
“Odi”, who else? The native of Nidwalden, who dominates the Ski World Cup, closed the 2021/22 season with a premium total of CHF 565,445. There are also 40,000 francs for his gold ride in the Olympic giant slalom in Beijing (plus 3,000 francs for seventh place in the downhill). And in the current season, Odermatt is already back at CHF 355,050 in the World Cup.
Lara Gut-Behrami trumps the women. The woman from Ticino earned 161,234 francs in the 2021/22 World Cup winter. Plus a total of 60,000 francs for Olympic gold in Super-G and bronze in giant slalom. In the World Cup prize money ranking for the current season, it is listed at CHF 88,200.
Cross-country skiing: Nadine Fähndrich
All the big money – in comparison, for example, with the skiing colleagues – does not exist in cross-country skiing. Nadine Fähndrich skimmed the most last season, with 21,000 francs in the World Cup and 5,000 francs for her fifth place in the Olympic sprint. Thanks to her fantastic start to the 2022/23 winter with two World Cup victories, she has already won another CHF 34,000.
For men, Jovian Hediger, who resigned in the spring, comes to 2,600 francs. In the current season, Valerio Grond leads the Swiss men’s money rankings with 1,500 francs.
Ski jumping: Killian Peier
When he’s healthy and in shape, Killian Peier is currently Switzerland’s greatest hope in the Ski Jumping World Cup. He won 45,100 francs after a solid 2021/22 season. The fact that he’s still on a clear zero this winter also has to do with the fact that he only returned from a knee injury in mid-December – and hasn’t gotten far at all yet.
Athletics: Mujinga Kambundji
She ignited the turbo in 2022: Mujinga Kambundji, with her gold run at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, her good performances at the World Championships in Eugene (5th over 100 m, 8th over 200 m, 7th in the relay) and in the Sprints 49,000 francs as part of the Diamond League. There are also further prizes for silver over 100 m and gold over 200 m at the European Championships in Munich.
Tennis: Belinda Bencic
The current number 12 in the world missed a major Grand Slam exploit this year, but reached the third round twice (French Open and US Open), winning the title in Charleston and losing the final in Berlin and the semifinals in Miami . A total of a whopping prize money of the equivalent of 1.22 million Swiss francs looks out. On top of that, there should have been a bonus for the Swiss victory at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow.
For men, Stan Wawrinka is the top Swiss earner in tennis in 2022 with CHF 510,640.
